Four strangers, three before a camera one discretely photographing. In lower picture possibly feigning a yawn to get closer. Life moves, camera moves, train rocks...lights flicker.

Mystery and magic for one subway fare.

Click here for a Walker Evans subway image. A few more can be found here.

A book of his subway series ia also available.

In the Evans photograph, ya gotta love the look of incredulity on the man's face; or the woman who seems to be thinking, "are YOU lookin' at ME?"

I am drawn to the movement in the second image. You have a great eye John. I'll go check out the link...

Thanks for the link, it is 'cool' to see them , and in relation to what you are doing.
I imagine he didn't worry about permission to photograph these subjects, and that most were anonymous?
I like the name of his book too, maybe for your book of subway series you could make A Dialogue with Walker Evans. Or anyway, must be fun to have 'found' these as part of your ongoing exploration...
best,
