"detail"

Now quite removed - this image stands on its own, altered in many ways, as it is.

Have a great Sunday.

"near.their.gardern"

Cory's shrine, as quilted. I like the serenity of the image. Two details, below. My best.

Wednesday, February 25, 2009

I continue to work with the image of Cory's shrine. The first details, in the post below, were very close to the original.

The images I am working with now have taken two forks - one set is darker and the other remains "blue." The details, above, are from the darker images.

Sue has been most gracious to give me an award....now I am supposed to reveal seven "things" about me (other than being on hold with the IRS this minute since I placed my charities amount one line down, ahhh. The IRS plays classical music - so far I have heard mozart, bach and a nutcracker suite. Yep, nutcracker).

i majored in early american history and kjoked that anything after reconstruction was political science. i almost went to graduate school in history.

as a kid I bred tropical fish and to this day love to go to pet stores with great freshwater fish. tropical fish is a dying hobby. very big in the fifties - see fish tanks godfather 2 movie - in the lake tahoe home.

i did not have the $5.00 for a ticket to see the beatles at the cow palace when i was a kid. i did see hard day's night in a twin bill with dr. no.

my favorite place to birdwatch is central park in manhattan; my favorite state to bird in is tejas, followed by california.

my first camera was a minolta, my second a nikon and my third a cannon. all 35 mm slr's.

i used to photograph sidewalks and staircases. in color, kodachrome.

if i could, i would live in cape may, new jersey, birding capital of the north eastern usa.

Thank you, Sue.

"details"

Here are details of a sample I am working on involving a tobacco box Madonna and Child shrine created by Cory of Art with Moxie. Cory is a painter and she makes beautiful jewelry. She has created a heartfelt shrine to honor her son and granddaughter, Mitch and Nicole.

Cory's shrine and others are being auctioned at Recuerda Mi Corazon to benefit the street children of Oaxaca.

Thank you, Cory, for allowing me to sample your art. My sincerest sympathy for your loss.

"in.case"

Neko Case's new album comes out in a week or so, but can be previewed in its entirety at NPR First Listen. I am hoping when she goes on tour she will allow NPR ALL Songs Considered do a podcast of one of her shows. Beyond her distinctive smooth voice, Neko has a memorable band for her solo work.

It is freezing in NYC - but crocuses are out and some daffodils are sending up shoots. I want to hear the sound of flip flops and even sooner the cardinal song heralding warmer days. I did see a couple of male American Robins the other day - theya re moving north early to claim the best territory- if they survive any bad weather ahead.

"Jenny said when she was just five years old
There was nothing happening at all
Every time she puts on a radio
There was a nothin' goin' down at all, not at all
Then one fine mornin' she puts on a new york station
You know, she couldn't believe what she heard at all
She started dancin' to that fine fine music
You know her life was saved by rock 'n' roll
Despite all the amputations you know you could just go out
And dance to a rock 'n' roll station

It was alright
It was allright
Hey baby you know it was allright

Jenny said when she was just by five years old
You know y parents gonna be the death of us all
Two tv sets and two cadillac cars -
Well you know it ain't gonna help me at all
Then one fine mornin' she turnss on a new york station
She doesn't believe what she hears at all
Ooh, she started dancin' to that fine fine music
You know her life is saved by rock 'n' roll,
Despite all the computations
You could just dance to a rock 'n' roll station

And baby it was allright
And it was alright
Hey it was allright
Hey here she comes now!
Jump! jump!

It was allright"

Close-upsof two morphs in progress.

"of.gifts.and.mist"

Final version, I promise.

My apologies for the on-line indulgence. I plan to work with larger files and the compositions for these will take shape slower so I might post in-progress-images. I will stop giving in progress images names - this is all a learning process, no.

This is a reduced size version, close up details are in a post below.

Yesterday I posted some quick studies in the basement. I also added something to the tutorial blog.

This is NPR's image - I borrowed it - NPR recently had a feature on what would have been on Abraham Lincoln's iPod. BTW, I had a great dislike for the Apple earbuds.

Something to listen to prior to its release is Laura Gibson's 'Beasts Of Seasons' NPR has been previewing select new CDs in their entirety - including Neil Young and Bruce Springsteen since the beginning of this year.

This one is hushingly beautiful. It comes out next week.

My best on a cold morn....

"details"

Details from my continued work on the image below. I muted some of the diagonals in the lighter areas. I also increased the brightness a bit.

"of.gifts"

I think I finally have finished this one - feels balanced and it moves with minimal bounce. I have enjoyed laying out the process - this one did not jump up like some others do - it has more like a process of pulling teeth and cutting and pasting crowns of creation (a nod to Jefferson Airplane). Not sure yet how much I like it, but it seems done. Very little sampling here - snippets from Joanne and I realize also some Lexi tree (blue streaks). The text was cut and pasted from a blog narrative and then scripted. I have used the text sample before - mystery in its ilegibility, I hope.

Suddenly I look at the image and it seems top heavy so maybe it is not done....

"of.pin.wheels"

Today it is a warm February day in New York - high forties. This morning there were a fifty mile hour gusts, however and it was hard to walk into it. You felt nature and I could not help but think of tornadoes and hurricanes and cyclones.

Here is found parchment, some fragments of a pinwheel and vertical slices of a Tokyo wall, I think. And also some holiday stars from Ireland - ghostly now and hardly noticeable.

Three continents in one JPG. Blown together by gusts of expression. Thank you for sharing them....

Not much time to create lately....this was done so very quickly.

Hope you all are well. Warm regards.

"craving.apricots"

It is freezing here and all my titles seem to long for the spring and the warmth and for sprouting leaves and flowers. Sampled from Lisa's marigold petals - dried and beautiful. Find a link below, if you are not color blind or distracted.

Lisa is even making marigold ink...somewhere.

In a few weeks at most, snow crocuses and then snowdrops. Hope you are well, thanks for visit.ing.

Below, is the image as of last night....

"towards.spring.on.cherry.hill"

"detail"

Last night's image altered and some slightly new techniques, not to forget and to explore.

Feel confident lately creating, although I need to work with larger image files.

About the name. Cherry Hill is a section in Central Park just adjacent to the row boat lake, a location used in many movies to show New Yorkers in love. Adjacent to this hill is an area of the Park called The Ramble which has undergrowth which attracts birds in migration because there is cover, and that means a better chance of survival.

Cherry Hill is a long gentle slope with lawn and many large, huge shade trees.

Birds go there and it is a delight to be there at sunrise. The links in this paragraph are to New World warblers, small songbirds that pass through Manhattan, some species starting from wintering grounds in the Amazon and headed towards Canada.

"once.blue.marble"

"detail"

Sampled here - a gem photo of a marble on a mat. Lovely blog of a family enjoying the nature and even birding.

There is also some Andrea canvas board sprinkles..... thank you, Andrea,

Worked very late, got home close to midnight. Pulled this out a hat...I am tired.

My best.
