The great blue heron is the bird that got me hooked on birding. We were driving in May around a wildlife preserve which cheap binoculars and a heron was close and looking at the water. It darted, grabed a ten inch fish and swallowed it in one fast gulp. Like watching the Nature channel.
It was a beautiful spring day and by pure luck, karma., we stumbled intgo migrating birds everywhere. Started an addiction. One of various.
