"towards.gratitude"
Bev sampled - trees in a snowy English field. This field is also sampled in the lonely basement.
Andrea used the word "grateful" in a recent comment and that is such an extraordinary word, under used and, thus, packed with meaning.
There really is so much to be grateful for - family, friends, talents, et cetera.
I have been reaching out via this blog for about a year now - maybe a few weeks less. I am grateful that I have met so many of you, shared your art and gotten glimpses of your lives.
When I look at my art from a year ago I see that it has evolved and much has to do with the encouragement and inspiration I have gotten here. Gracias.
My best.

"win.ter"
Cherry blossoms are a memory and our months long fate - this image, cropped and man.ipu.late.d, came from the same gene pool as my image in the post directly below.
Twist and turns. Frost.bites.
In the Van Gogh exhibit currently at MOMA one of my favorite paintings, "The Sower," is strongly influenced by the Japanese wood block print. I have been borrowing a lot from Japan lately.

"cy.pan"
Cyprus and Japan - Frances and Joanne.
Carob and a lost.and.found treasure - it's a wrap.per
I am intrigued by Joanne's work - see my blog link to "Found in Japan." Years ago I looked for and photographed random refuse and tried to find beauty in litter- Joanne brings her finds home to record in her scanner.
Recently I sampled Lisa's "Christmas trees for sale" photograph and that image can be found in the basement and also with syrup.

"sliver"
Frances again, Cyprus, again - mucho manipulated.
An exercises....one, two, three, four - who else liked jumping jacks? I am still partial to squat thrusts.
Black is the new black. I know this is cheap. Sorry.
Here is a small version of a peaceful Frances photograph (I played with the color):
The sliver was taken from this snippet:
Cold.err in NYC today - saw my first flurry of the season. It actually was a lovely Nutcracker fairy dance flurry, but for my cold hands....heat bills.

"quest.ions"
I am experimenting - taking a small set of internet images of an attractive woman, but the photos are representational, out of focus, etc. So I am playing - cropping, altering, disrupting. And the limitations entertain, challange, sort of problem solving.
And creation, So here we go again....
Listening to a live The Decemberists concert on NPR....

I voted with my two little ones - I let them pull the bar and took a photo inside the booth. They hammed it up.
History. Something so many of us just a year ago never imagined, dreamed, could happen.
Am I being too optimistic that we as a nation are moving more towards a global orientation? The financial crisis already proved that we need to respond globaly rather than parochialy.
It is a generational shift, a newer more constructive world order. Someone, somehow, not rooted in 1950s cold.war ideology. Maybe, a son of the sixties. Still, you need more than love. Hope can be a start.
Politics cannot remain as usual - bickering and half efficient compromises. We should punish, vote out, those that cannot shift.
